“I Dropped to 48 Kilos” – The Effects of a Herniated Stomach

Çetiner, who got emotional while describing his difficulties, said, “I could not eat anything and I was constantly vomiting what I ate. After three surgeries in Konya and Istanbul, nothing changed. I weighed 77 kilograms when I first underwent surgery, but I dropped to 48 kilograms during the disease process. My psychology also deteriorated. I tried to survive only on liquid foods such as water, soup and yogurt.”

“I forgot the taste of food”

Stating that he reached Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır through social media, Çetiner said, “Although I am a cook, I forgot the taste of food. I don’t know the taste of anything and I don’t want anything. With the permission of Allah and thanks to my teacher Tuğrul, I will be able to eat again.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır stated that the patient was operated on with the closed method in Konya, but he was operated on again with the open surgery method three months later after his complaints continued. In the third surgery performed in Istanbul, he stated that a patch was placed on the diaphragm to prevent the stomach from entering the chest cage.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çakır stated that Sefa Çetiner’s esophagus was tried to be expanded several times with the balloon method, but no results were obtained. In the examinations, it was determined that the stomach was still inside the rib cage and the esophagus was short. He said that they lengthened the esophagus using stomach tissue and cleaned the patch and metallic tacker placed in the previous surgery. After the surgery, the patient started feeding and can now easily consume liquid and solid foods. Çetiner had been eating only liquid foods since 2017, but now he is preparing to be discharged after regaining his health.
