Fighting Liver Cancer and the Transplant Process

Aydın Bostan, who lives in Manavgat, developed liver cancer due to Hepatitis B virus. Bostan, who has been on the liver transplant waiting list for the last two months, was called to Antalya Training and Research Hospital after a suitable liver was found from a cadaver about a month ago. However, doctors stopped the transplant operation in case the cancer had spread to the lungs. After 10 days of tests, it was understood that the lesions in the lungs were due to Covid-19 and the transplant was rescheduled. Bostan clung to life again with the good news from General Surgery and Organ Transplant Center Responsible Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır and regained his health 19 days ago with a liver transplant from a cadaver.

Emotional Moments and Acknowledgements

Aydın Bostan stated that when he learned that the operation was canceled while waiting for a liver transplant, he experienced great sadness and lost hope. However, the phone call from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır was the turning point of his life. Bostan, who was touched by this news and had difficulty speaking, completed the phone call with his wife. Bostan, who regained his health, thanked the family of the organ donor and wished mercy to the donor from Allah.

The Importance of Organ Donation: A Miracle 20 Years Later

Aydın Bostan’s wife Nadire Bostan also emphasized the importance of organ donation in this difficult process. Stating that she donated organs in 2002, Nadire Bostan said, “I could not have thought that something like this would happen to us 20 years later. Organ donation is of vital importance. I wish God’s mercy to the donor who gave us hope in this process.”

A Successful Surgery and a New Life

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır stated that Aydın Bostan went through a difficult process and the only way out was liver transplantation. The transplant took place after the patient, who was initially excluded from the program, was added to the list again, and after a successful operation, Bostan both got rid of cancer and his liver performs its function normally. Aydın Bostan, who is now preparing to be discharged, is on the verge of a new life.
