Vomiting Surgery
Mihriban Gençay (74), whose stomach was completely removed due to stomach cancer in Ankara, continued her life by vomiting everything she ate for 5 years. In this process, Gençay, who dropped from 84 kg to 52 kg, regained her health thanks to a vomiting surgery performed in Antalya.
After being diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2017, Mihriban Gençay lost her entire stomach with the surgery she underwent. However, after this operation, she faced a new health problem by removing everything she ate. Gençay tried to survive by having difficulty even drinking water. This situation, which doctors said was temporary, worsened over time.
Gençay, who dropped from 84 kg to 52 kg due to malnutrition, applied to Antalya Training and Research Hospital General Surgery and Organ Transplant Center Responsible Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır on the advice of her daughter living in Antalya. After the surgery performed with the complaint of vomiting, Mihriban Gençay regained her former health and left her difficult days behind.
“I couldn’t even drink water”
Mihriban Gençay stated that she had a constant vomiting problem after stomach surgery and said, “For 5 years, I was fed with lettuce salad, rice pilaf and bread. I couldn’t even drink water.” Stating that she had to eat snacks due to diabetes, but could not realize this situation, Gençay said, “I could not put milk in my mouth, I could not eat yogurt. I was constantly vomiting.”
“He Saved Me”
After detailed examinations performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır at Antalya Training and Research Hospital, the decision to operate was taken. Gençay, who regained his health after the surgery, said, “I eat the egg I have difficulty eating, I drink 8 cups of tea, I started to gain weight. I eat and drink everything I want. I owe this to Tuğrul teacher. God bless him, he saved me.”
“Our patient got rid of vomiting”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır stated that the patient applied to them with the complaint of constant vomiting and said, “The patient, whose stomach was completely removed 5 years ago due to stomach cancer, started to have vomiting problems that intensified especially at night one month after the surgery. The drug treatments applied in Ankara were not sufficient.”
Stating that during the operation, they found that the drug administered passed into the duodenum, but the bile was directed to the mouth instead of going down, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çakır said, “We separated the small intestine from the point where the anastomosis was made in the previous surgery and re-anastomosed it from about 20 centimeters forward.”
Stating that Mihriban Gençay’s health condition was quite good after the surgery, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çakır said, “Our patient can now eat everything and is completely free from vomiting.”
